Assistant Project Manager Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

Classification: Exempt | Full-Time

Department: Operations/Project Management

Location: Walnut Creek, CA

Reports To: Project Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may coordinate the work of project coordinators, vendors, and subcontractors under the direction of the project manager.

Position Overview

The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager in the successful planning, coordination, executions, and closeout of commercial and industrial electrical construction projects. This role assists with project documentation, financial tracking, scheduling, procurement, client communications, and field coordination to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers with the administration of multiple electrical construction projects

• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, and project documentation

• Monitor project schedules and coordinate project milestones

• Assist with budget tracking, forecasting, billing, and cost reporting

• Coordinate material procurement and vendor deliveries

• Communicate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel

• Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation is complete and accurate

• Support contact administration and project closeout activities

• Monitor compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and safety standards

• Assist in identifying project risks and recommending solutions

• Develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Perform additional project related duties assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree is Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred

• Two to five years of construction project coordination or project management experience, preferably in electrical construction

• Knowledge of construction documents, scheduling, and project administration

• Strong organization, analytical, and problem solving skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software

• Valid California drivers license

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, generally 40 hours per week. Additional hours may be required to meet project deadlines

Required Travel

Regular travel to project sites throughout Northern California. Occasional overnight travel may be required

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, work on active construction sites, wear required personal protective equipment, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
