ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER

Assistant Project Manager

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

Department: Project Management / Office Support

Reports to: Project Managers & Project Executives

Position Summary

As an Assistant Project Manager at Elson Electric, you will support the planning and execution of commercial electrical projects while building the foundation to grow into a Project Manager. This role is designed for someone early in their career who is intentional about pursuing a career in electrical project management.

Prior electrical or construction experience is beneficial; however, candidates who bring strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment will be well positioned to succeed. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates confidently, and builds strong working relationships with both field teams and clients.

In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers, Executives, and field staff to learn how projects are managed from preconstruction through closeout. You will also gain exposure to client interactions and business development efforts, developing a well-rounded understanding of both project execution and long-term relationship management.

This is a growth-oriented position with a clear path toward Project Management for someone who demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a genuine interest in the construction industry.

Career Path

This role is intentionally structured as a stepping stone into Project Management. With mentorship from Project Managers and Executives, the Assistant Project Manager will gain exposure to all aspects of electrical project management, with the goal of advancing into a Project Manager role over time.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day coordination of assigned projects from planning through closeout.

• Review and organize construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including change orders, meeting minutes, and logs.

• Participate in client-facing meetings alongside senior team members, building relationships with business stakeholders and supporting ongoing and future project opportunities.

• Support in preparing budgets, schedules, and cost tracking.

• Assist with quantity take-offs and estimating support for bids and proposals.

• Track material procurement, deliveries, and equipment to ensure project timelines are met.

• Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients as directed.

• Assist in monitoring field progress and compliance with safety policies and OSHA requirements.

• Prepare and assemble project closeout documentation.

• Support the team by providing regular updates, reporting on progress, and ensuring issues are escalated as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Motivated self-starter with a willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.

• Ambitious, entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in both project execution and business growth.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in professional and client-facing settings.

• Outgoing and relationship-oriented, with a natural ability to connect with others and build rapport.

• Professional demeanor, with a focus on reliability and accountability.

• Organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Education & Experience

• Experience in construction or electrical contracting preferred.

• Familiarity with construction/project management software (e.g., Procore) a plus.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field a plus.
